The ivory gull was found by Ricky Olson on February 16 at the intakes of Oahe Dam. I have marked that location on the map, there is open water and lots of waterfowl. Highway 1804 goes along the north side of Lake Oahe. There are several places to park and look out over the ice. Another area of open water where the ivory gull seems to stay a lot is marked on the map. To get there, one can walk around from the east, but that is a long walk. The route most people are using is marked on the map. Go to the Peoria Flats Road (there is a sign on Highway 1804), and take the first gravel road going south. There is a huge lodge and a house at the end of the road. The gravel turns to a two-track road that can be driven to the end. This is a public access point to public land. It's a steep hill but a much shorter hike. To download a map (570 kb .jpg) of the area where the gull has been seen, click here More photos of the gull can be seen
