Harlan's Red-tailed Hawk
spitting up a pellet
Farm Island Recreation Area
October 18, 2016

This young Harlan's Red-tailed Hawk let me approach quite close this morning.
I was in my truck and slowly drove closer, until I thought I was close
enough, shut off the engine and started shooting photos.

Shortly after I stopped, it started doing this.

Up comes the pellet!

For once, everything was just about perfect for photography, I was close
enough for good detail, nothing in the way, sun was behind me, great lighting
and no wind.
