Broad-winged Hawk, dark morph
Farm Island
May 6, 2017

The dark morph Broad-winged Hawk is described as rare in most field guides. Brian Wheeler, author of Raptors of Western North America, states that less than 1% of the breeding population in Canada consists of dark morphs. The dark morph Broad-winged Hawk is known to breed only in central Alberta. Some summer sightings have been documented in British Columbia.

I've seen these dark morphs a few times but have never been able to get a good flight shot from below like this.
