Butterflies from the Beartooth Pass area, Wyoming
and Montana
July 30, 2019
I had misidentified this as a Lilac Bordered Copper, but after seeing more of
them and
getting shots of the underside of the wing, I realize these are female Greenish
Blues.
My field guide does not show them being this colorful, but they are when fresh.
See the example at the bottom of this page, dull and colorless.
Chryxus Arctic. Lifer.
Theano Alpine. Lifer butterfly and quite a surprise to find this here.
I was hoping to find some species of Alpine, this one is usually found in
the high Arctic, but looking at the range maps again, I see there
some isolated populations in the Rockies, and I found one of them.
I saw quite a few of these today.
Greenish Blue, male. I have some not very good photos of this species from the
Black Hills, so was happy to get better ones today. This species is very common
here.
