Some Photos from the Ajo, Arizona Area
September 30, 2019
I have tried several targets for astrophotography but only one turned out
well, the Andromeda Galaxy. I haven't tried photographing this for over a
year. Ninety
second exposures help to bring out more color in the galaxy.
A soaring Harris's Hawk, backlit. I don't see these hawks
soaring like this very often, so it makes a nice opportunity.
In Bud Walker Park this morning, there were about 20 Turkey Vultures
sitting on a fence, waiting for their turn to feed on a dead coyote.
I liked the pose this one gave me.
My prize for today, two female Hermit Warblers. Although I have seen this
species
many times in the mountains of SE Arizona, I have never seen any in the Sonoran
Desert.
Hermit Warbler preening.
Hermit Warbler.
I watched this Western Diamondback for an hour yesterday morning and again in
the afternoon
as it tried to get out of the sewage treatment pond. It could get about halfway
up the liner
then it would slide back down to the water. As far as I know it never got out.
The ponds are fenced, gated and locked, so there was nothing I could do.
Sonoran Collared Lizard on Child's Mountain. I photographed
one on the same rock last spring, so I suppose it is the same lizard.
