Some Photos from the Las Cienegas National
Conservation Area, Arizona
September 19, 2019
This morning a Roadrunner hopped up on this rusty wire and posed for me briefly.
Nice light!
Another Mantid, this one is on the windshield of the truck.
Tiger of the Night.
I saw a couple of Common Poorwills on the road.
This is a new one for me, a Whip Scorpion or Vinegaroon. Not to be confused
with the Wind Scorpion, neither of which is a true scorpion, but it is an
arachnid.
About three inches long, they can spray acetic acid through glands at the base
of the
tail to deter predators.
