Some Photos from Ajo, Arizona
October 10, 2019
I did another Sidewinder photo and cropped this one tighter, the eyes show up
better.
Say's Phoebe is one of the most peaceful, non-combative species of bird I've
seen, they just feed on insects, drink water, fly from perch to perch, but these
two
really took a dislike to each other. When I first saw them they were on the
ground fighting.
They ended up like this for about 1/2 minute and I worked
my way closer, they paid no attention to me at all. Finally they flew off and
chased each other around for another five minutes or so. I wonder
what that was all about, nesting season is over. Must be a dispute over who is
getting
what winter territory.
A Heermann's Gull at Lake Ajo. A pretty rare bird for Arizona. I've only
seen two
in AZ, both at Lake Ajo. Since we are only about 150 miles from the Sea of
Cortez in Mexico, they occasionally wander up this way.
