My first Goode's Horned Lizard of the spring.
Last night I got up at 2:30 AM to do some astro. The moon set about
3 AM, so it was dark enough for a couple of hours. I chose the
Eagle Nebula (M16) and the Pillars of Creation. A perfect target for the C8.
The Pillars of Creation (in the center of the nebula) were made famous by a
Hubble Space Telescope photo taken in 1995. The Eagle Nebula is a 5.5
million-year-old
cloud of molecular hydrogen gas and dust stretching approximately
70 light-years by 55 light-years.
Here's a tighter crop on the Pillars of
Creation.
