More photos from Ajo
and now from Tubac, AZ
April 28, 2020
From a few nights ago, a Spotted Leaf-nosed Snake. I photographed these last
year too.
I tried more bat photography before leaving Ajo. California Myotis again at
Valentine Well.
California Myotis, the wing got cut off at the edge of the frame.
This morning I got an early start and went down to Tubac to try for the
Rose-throated Becards
that were reported to be building nests. Jim and Cynthia Krakowski showed me
where the nests were, they
had to leave but I stayed there for several hours. The Rose-throated Becards
stayed high in the trees, mostly in
shaded areas, so it was difficult photography. I took the 500 f4 with 1.4 TC on
the tripod and
I'm glad I did, I needed all the focal length I could get. This bird is a male.
Rose-throated Becard is my 601st ABA area life bird.
Male Rose-throated Becard
Female Rose-throated Becard at the nest. The nests are quite large for bird of
this size, they put a lot of work into building them.
