Ringtail!
In the Stewart Campground, Cave Creek, Chiricahua Mountains
October 2, 2017
I was looking for the Hognosed Skunk I had seen the night
before, instead found a Ringtail. Ringtails are strictly nocturnal and not often
seen. This one was very cooperative as I followed it around with my flashlight.
Canon 7D Mark II with a Canon 200mm f2.8 lens, Canon 580 EX flash.
When I first saw it, it was eating some kind of
invertebrate, but I can't quite tell what. The eyeshine is very strong at night.
I didn't see that it was inspecting something on the ground until
I looked at the photos later. I do not know if it ate this beetle.
Looks like a Scarab beetle of some sort.
