Mexican Agapema Moth, Darby Well, near Ajo, AZ
November 12, 2017

I had two of these moths at the black light tonight. The first one was
really beat up, so I was pretty happy when this second moth showed up about two hours later.

When the wind was right, I could smell the Condalia flowers (Condalia is
the larval food plant) in the arroyo nearby. This is a male, females have a mostly
gray hindwing and in males the eyespot touches the median line.

A view of the underwings. These moths have a 2.5 to 3.5 inch wingspan.
