Night of the Dipodomys
January 6, 2018

There was some dumb horror movie called Night of the Lepus back in the 1970's.
Some of it was filmed here in Ajo. I actually saw some of it years ago.
Anyway, I have had more fun with the Merriam's Kangaroo Rat (Dipodomys merriami) and I decided
that tonight was its night.

I got him at a different burrow complex tonight. When he finally came out, he stayed
long enough to get 10 shots, some of which were pretty good, like this one.

Oh what shot this would have been if the kangaroo rat had been in the plane of focus! Gives me something to strive for.

Angling away, otherwise pretty good.

My prize for the night, not airborne but at least in the process of leaping. Very sharp, using flash as my
only light source gives me an effective shutter speed far faster than the camera can do. These photos
are the result of about 2 hours of waiting for the kangaroo rat to come to my prefocus point.
