Chiricahua Mountains
April 27, 2018
Before I left Empire Ranch I got one more night of planetary photography.
Results weren't much better, seeing was still bad and I had some high clouds
drifting by. I still picked up on some better methods and solved one problem I
was having, that the planets were drifting out of view before I could focus and
shoot. It turned out that the clutches on the mount needed to be tightened more
and that solved the problem. Jupiter above at 2000mm focal length, Ganymede is
the moon below Jupiter and Io is above.
At 5000mm, still pretty blurry but it turned out better than I
expected after seeing how disturbed the atmosphere was.
The Slate-throated Redstart, life bird. A rare stray from Mexico, but
it has been found in this same location for two years now, in the spring and
summer.
I missed it last year but this spring it returned earlier.
