Hiking in the Ajo Mountains, Organ Pipe
Cactus National Monument
October 26, 2018
Desert Rosemallow, Hibiscus coulteri. In past years I am lucky to see a
few of these
in the spring. This fall, they were everywhere. There were so many, everywhere
I went, I began to question whether I even knew what they were.
Looked it up when I got back and yes, Desert Rosemallow.
I've only seen this species of whiptail once before, and both times I am
disappointed with the photos.
They do not cooperate. Red-backed Whiptail, juvenile.
Giant Desert Centipede, Scolopendra heros. These centipedes are 6-8
inches long.
First time I've seen one in the wild.
Some species of jumping spider on my windshield. It was tiny, less than 1/4
inch.
I'll post it on BugGuide.net and see if I can get a name for it.
