Botteri's Sparrow

Today I decided to try for Botteri's Sparrow. I may have seen one before but
the view was brief and I had no photos to show. Conventional birding wisdom
is that one gets Botteri's Sparrow in summer, after the monsoon rains that usually
start in July. Apparently all the rain this winter has moved the nesting
season up, because I found several singing males today.

Lifer bird, Botteri's Sparrow. I found several today. They are very difficult to
photograph though. These sparrows do not like to come out in the open and will
not let me approach. My best luck came when shooting from the truck window.

Not very sharp but it does show the yellow feathers at the bend of the wing.

Botteri's Sparrow. Every photo I got has something in the way or some
other defect. I'll try again tomorrow for some nice clear shots.
