Merriam's Kangaroo Rat
January 28, 2019
The key to wildlife photography is to spend time
learning the animal and have a lot of patience. I've got
this guy figured out now. Very pleased with the photos I got tonight.
A scuff of the foot and he goes airborne. All of these are done pre-focused, so
I get a lot of missed shots. This one is sharp as a razor.
Coming in for a landing before making a dash to the hole.
Gotta get out of here, fast!
The kangaroo rat always comes back out after the initial alert. Now it is
foraging again. I put a little bit of gerbil food out to keep it coming back.
In sharp focus from tip of the tail to the whiskers on the nose. All photos from
tonight with Zeiss 135mm f2 APO Sonnar lens, Canon 7D MII, Canon 600 EX-II
flash, on tripod. I use a night vision scope to watch the kangaroo rat. I don't
know how
many hours I've invested in photographing Merriam's Kangaroo Rat, but
what I got tonight makes it all worthwhile.
