Astrophotography in the
Ajo, AZ Area
December 29, 2018
I sent my Losmandy G-11 into the repair shop to see if they could get it to
track any better. There is new technology now and they added it to the mount.
Now I can image for up to 2-3 minutes without getting star trailing. This helps
alot for the really faint things like the Flaming Star Nebula.
Long exposures don't help that much with bright nebulas like the
Great Nebula in Orion. I just added more exposure to the ones I took earlier.
The faint dust clouds are starting to get easier to bring out without
making the nebula look too bright. This is about two hours of integration at f4,
ISO 1600.
This would be a good start on a very faint nebula, the Flaming Star Nebula.
This is about an hour of 2 minute and 1.5 minute exposures. Unfortunately, I
didn't have it framed right and the top of the nebula is cut off, so I will have
to start over again.
