Comets in the solar system and other things
in the Universe
February 21, 2017
This is 45P Honda-Mrkos Pajdusakova (2016). I don't know how they come up with
these names, other than the discoverer is in there somewhere. This was in the
constellation Coma Berenices last night. It is too faint to see even with
binoculars, but the camera can pick it up. Twenty-four frames stacked in Deep
Sky Stacker, 500mm. At the right center are four small galaxies known as the
Box. In upper right is NGC 4136. There are some other small galaxies as well.
Comet 2P Encke. It is near Venus, and close to the sun, I had a hard time
dealing with light gradients. But, I was pleased to see that the tail was
visible. This comet would probably be visible in binoculars if it wasn't so
close to the sun. It sets in the west soon after sunset.
Galaxies in the Virgo Galaxy Cluster. In the upper right is the Pin-Wheel
Galaxy, M99. In the lower left is the Blowdryer Galaxy, M 100.
Bode's Galaxy and the Cigar Galaxy, I've done these before, but here they are
again.
